Frequently Asked Questions

What should my child wear to Pre School?

In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send children dressed in clothes which are easily washed or not too new, and which are practical and appropriate. Sweatshirts and T-shirts with the Scarning Pre School logo can be purchased through the Pre School, please see uniform link. These are both comfortable and practical to wear. We do have spare clothes in case of accidents, but children are often happier if they have their own clothes to change into. We require children to bring a named bag to pre school every session, with spare clothes, and appropriate outdoor wear for the time of year.

My child isn’t toilet trained yet, will that be a problem?

No, we DO accept children in disposable nappies, however parents must provide nappies, all cleaning products and nappy sacks.

If your child is toilet training, please let us know and we will work with you. Please provide extra clothing in case of accidents.

Will my child be assigned a key worker?

Yes, the pre school has a key person system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible for. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what the pre school provides is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the pre school, they will help your child to settle and throughout your child’s time at the pre school, they will help your child to benefit from the pre school’s activities.

How will I know what my child has been doing at Pre School?

The pre school uses an online learning journal called ‘Famly’.

Parents are set up on Famly to both view observations and wow moments recorded during the children’s sessions and to add their own observations, news and comments. This is a lovely interactive way to share information between home and pre school. Parents are notified by email when a new observation is added to their child’s learning journey. This helps parents to see instantly what their child has enjoyed and promotes conversation when at home.

What are the fees?

For our current fees information, please see our fees page.

My child will be staying for lunch, what should I bring?

We do encourage all parents/carers to bring a healthy lunch for their child, this may include a sandwich, a yoghurt, a piece of fruit and a drink etc. We operate as a ‘nut free zone’. There is also an option to have a hot dinner or packed lunch provided by the kitchen at Scarning Primary School for a small charge. Please ask if you would like more information about this.

We hope this has helped to answer any questions you may have, if there is anything else that you would like to ask please don’t hesitate to contact us.
